Overview

The role is for a Senior Software Engineer to join the Elasticsearch - Search Relevance team at Elastic, the Search AI Company. This distributed team focuses on enhancing the search experience by contributing to new search features and improvements.

Key Responsibilities

• Lead initiatives to develop an industry-leading search engine focusing on speed and relevance.
• Contribute to Elasticsearch by building new search features and fixing bugs while improving code readability.
• Collaborate with a global team focused on vector search capabilities of Elasticsearch.
• Serve as an expert on Elasticsearch search relevance, identifying areas for improvement.
• Work with community members across the globe on issues and pull requests.
• Write idiomatic modern Java, as Elasticsearch is predominantly Java-based.

Requirements

• Experience implementing techniques in vector similarity on widely-used search platforms or in academic research.
• Professional experience with search or vector databases, including algorithms like HNSW and IVF.
• Strong skills in core Java and familiarity with data structures and concurrency constructs.
• Ability to work autonomously on projects from design to implementation.
• Experience in collaborative development with effective feedback processes.
• Familiarity with multiple data storage technologies such as Elasticsearch, Solr, PostgreSQL, MongoDB, or Cassandra.
• Track record of utilizing AI for development acceleration and code optimization.
• Capable of transitioning between different projects and teams based on priorities.
