Staff Android Tooling Engineer @Lyft

Overview

Lyft is seeking a Staff Android Tooling Engineer to join their Mobile Tooling team, focused on creating foundational systems for mobile engineers. The role aims to enhance developer experience by providing flexible tooling for rapid innovation and efficient mobile app development.

Key Responsibilities

• Develop and maintain mobile build and release infrastructure, creating tools for mobile engineers to build, test, and release apps efficiently.
• Manage projects from start to finish, ensuring cross-functional alignment and addressing any obstacles.
• Analyze systems and processes to identify improvement and automation opportunities.
• Contribute to the source code of existing tools and keep updated with Android developments.
• Prototype and implement tools for scaling infrastructure.
• Build mobile specific AI agent workflows to improve developer productivity.
• Maintain and update Android Studio, versions, and library dependencies.
• Write high-quality, maintainable code and resolve issues across applications and tools.
• Mentor junior engineers and participate in hiring processes.

Requirements

• Minimum 7+ years of software engineering experience.
• Experience with large Android builds and Bazel.
• Experience in building command-line tools using Python or Bash.
• Strong knowledge of Kotlin; Bonus: Jetpack Compose.
• Deep understanding of mobile testing practices.
• Experience improving developer experience through cross-functional projects.
• Ability to work collaboratively within a team.
• Bonus: Experience with AI tools that enhance developer productivity.

Location

This role is hybrid, requiring in-office work three days a week in San Francisco.
