    Job Opening: Staff Health Officer 1 – ICRC ()

    Location: Maiduguri, Borno State (with regular visits to Damaturu)

    The International Committee of the Red Cross (ICRC), part of the world’s largest humanitarian network, is dedicated to alleviating human suffering, protecting life and health, and upholding human dignity, especially during armed conflicts and emergencies.

    ICRC is currently seeking a qualified candidate for the position of Staff Health Officer 1 to support staff health services in Maiduguri and Damaturu.

    Role Purpose
    Under the supervision of the HR Officer and Staff Health Manager, the Staff Health Officer will manage all health-related matters for ICRC staff. The role supports the organization’s strategy to decentralize operational medical services, improving efficiency, effectiveness, and responsiveness.

    The position is based in Maiduguri, with 1–2 week visits monthly to Damaturu, contributing approximately 50% support to both locations.

    Key Responsibilities
    The successful candidate will conduct health risk assessments and deliver health briefings and debriefings for staff. They will ensure staff vaccinations comply with ICRC health policies and provide counseling for medical screenings and annual clearances.

    The role includes organizing awareness campaigns, facilitating first-aid training, and supporting medical evacuation planning. The candidate will maintain strict medical confidentiality while providing individual medical follow-ups and mental health support, including first psychological aid where required.

    Additionally, the Staff Health Officer will coordinate referrals to appropriate healthcare services, manage medical reimbursements, monitor medical stock (including cold chain items), and maintain relationships with referral hospitals.

    Requirements

    Education & Certification:

    • MBBS degree with a minimum of 3 years clinical experience
    • Valid work permit to work in Nigeria

    Skills & Experience:

    • Experience in mental health, stress management, and medical evacuation
    • Knowledge of tropical medicine and public health systems
    • Proficiency in Microsoft Office and internet tools
    • Strong analytical, organizational, and communication skills

    Personal Attributes:

    • Strong motivation for humanitarian work
    • Ability to travel up to 50% of the time
    • High level of professionalism and confidentiality
    • Strong teamwork, management, and interpersonal skills
