    Overview

    Fivetran is seeking a Staff R&D Software Engineer to join the Fivetran AI team, focused on building the open data infrastructure for AI applications.

    Key Responsibilities

    • Research emerging techniques in retrieval, reasoning, and agentic AI, evaluating their relevance for the roadmap.
    • Prototype ideas quickly and develop production-grade features based on successful prototypes.
    • Define technical direction across teams to ensure cohesive architecture decisions.
    • Build and maintain back-end and front-end systems for the Fivetran AI product.
    • Drive the AISQL capability to convert natural language to SQL based on dbt metric definitions.
    • Oversee production reliability, including incident response and SRE duties.
    • Set testing and QA standards, performing hands-on QA work when necessary.
    • Utilize coding agents to automate repetitive tasks and free time for research and design work.
    • Mentor engineers and contribute to the hiring process.

    Requirements

    • 8+ years of programming experience with Python and/or Java.
    • Ability to analyze AI/ML research and turn findings into prototypes and production systems.
    • Strong product and market awareness to discern valuable techniques from hype.
    • Experience with SQL and data warehouses such as BigQuery, Snowflake, or Databricks.
    • Willingness to work across research, backend, frontend, SRE, and QA as needed.
    • Experience with coding agents or AI tooling.
    • Ability to mentor engineers and influence decisions across teams.
    • Adaptability to a startup-like environment with shifting priorities.

    Location

    This is a full-time hybrid position based out of Denver, Colorado, requiring two days in the office each week.
