Staff R&D Software Engineer, Fivetran AI @Fivetran

Overview

Fivetran is looking for a Staff R&D Software Engineer to join the Fivetran AI team. This role involves building the open data infrastructure that powers AI agents and requires a blend of engineering skills across various domains.

Key Responsibilities

• Research emerging techniques in retrieval, reasoning, and AI.
• Prototype new ideas and turn them into production-grade features.
• Define technical direction spanning multiple teams.
• Maintain both back-end and front-end systems for the Fivetran AI product.
• Drive the AISQL capability forward, converting natural language to SQL.
• Ensure production reliability and participate in on-call rotations.
• Set QA practices and conduct hands-on QA work.
• Mentor other engineers and contribute to the hiring process.

Requirements

• 8+ years of programming experience in Python and/or Java.
• Expertise in SQL and data warehouse technologies (BigQuery, Snowflake, etc.).
• Ability to independently define and execute technical work.
• Experience with coding agents and AI tooling.
• Track record of mentoring and influencing technical decisions.
• Strong product and market awareness.

Location

This is a hybrid position based out of Austin, TX, requiring two days in the office each week.
