Overview

Fivetran is looking for a Staff R&D Software Engineer to join its fast-growing AI team. The role focuses on building open data infrastructure that supports AI agents, emphasizing the need for a governed context layer for accurate data handling.

Key Responsibilities

• Research emerging AI techniques and evaluate their potential for Fivetran AI's roadmap.
• Prototype and develop production-grade features from validated ideas.
• Define technical direction across multiple teams, ensuring cohesive decisions.
• Build and maintain both back-end and front-end systems for the Fivetran AI product.
• Manage the AISQL capability and ensure production reliability.
• Lead testing and QA practices and mentor other engineers.
• Contribute to the hiring process for the team.

Requirements

• 8+ years of programming experience in Python and/or Java.
• Ability to influence technical direction across teams.
• Strong understanding of AI/ML research and translating it into prototypes.
• Experience with SQL and data warehouses such as BigQuery, Snowflake, or Databricks.
• Willingness to work across full stack development and various engineering tasks.
• Experience with coding agents or AI tooling for enhanced productivity.
• Demonstrated mentoring capabilities and influence in technical decisions.
• Comfort in a dynamic, startup-like environment.
