Staff R&D Software Engineer, Fivetran AI @Fivetran

Overview

Fivetran is seeking a Staff R&D Software Engineer to join the Fivetran AI team. The role focuses on building an open data infrastructure that powers AI agents, focusing on the governed context layer critical for accuracy and trust in AI data consumption.

Key Responsibilities

• Research and evaluate emerging techniques in retrieval, reasoning, and agent-based AI.
• Prototype new ideas and develop them into production-grade features.
• Define technical direction across multiple teams to ensure cohesive architecture decisions.
• Develop and maintain both back-end and front-end systems for AI products.
• Drive the AISQL capability progress, executing natural language queries against the data warehouse.
• Ensure production reliability and participate in on-call rotation for system maintenance.
• Mentor engineers and support the interview process for potential hires.

Requirements

• 8+ years of programming experience, particularly in Python and Java.
• Ability to influence and define technical direction beyond one’s own team.
• Experience in SQL and familiarity with data warehouse technology such as BigQuery, Snowflake, or Databricks.
• Willingness to engage across the tech stack, including backend, frontend, SRE, and QA.
• Strong coding skills with the ability to improve unfamiliar codebases.
• Experience using AI tooling to enhance engineering productivity.

Location

This is a full-time hybrid position based out of the Austin, TX office, with a requirement of two days in the office each week.
