Staff Software Engineer @Twilio

Overview

Twilio is seeking a Staff Software Engineer to join its Voice Connectivity Trust team. The role involves contributing to innovative solutions for customers using Voice in their solutions, participating in the software development life cycle, and maintaining services in a distributed production environment.

Key Responsibilities

• Design and implement real-time services with high throughput and low latency requirements.
• Work closely with stakeholders to understand customer needs and deliver scalable solutions.
• Express ideas in detailed prose to collaborate effectively with cross-functional teams.
• Address the challenges of scaling a complex distributed platform.
• Develop novel solutions for customer problems in the Voice channel.

Requirements

• Minimum 8 years of hands-on experience in large scale, distributed applications on JVM based technologies.
• Bachelor's degree in Computer Science or a related engineering field.
• Strong fundamentals in Computer Science including data structures, algorithms, an understanding of operating systems, and distributed systems.
• Experience with RESTful services, API design, and event-driven architectures (e.g., Kafka, SQS).
• Hands-on experience optimizing CI/CD pipelines.
• Experience with on-call rotations and monitoring/alerting tools (e.g., Prometheus, Datadog, Grafana).
• Hands-on experience with cloud infrastructures such as AWS, GCP, OpenStack, or Azure.
• Excellent written communication skills for creating clear documentation.
• Ability to evaluate AI-generated code for correctness, security, and performance.
• Proven Java experience with strong fundamentals for architecture, review, and debugging.
• Experience working with AI coding assistants.
• Experience scaling production backend systems.
• A strong team collaborator and technical leader.

Location

This is a remote role based in Ireland. Travel may be required occasionally for team meetings.
