Staff Software Engineer, Backend (Identity Decisioning) @Affirm

Overview

The role is for a Staff Software Engineer focused on backend development for Affirm's Identity Decisioning team. This position is pivotal to enhancing the customer checkout experience, especially in international markets.

Key Responsibilities

• Set technical strategy for the team and align it with critical business-impacting projects.
• Collaborate across teams in the product development lifecycle, ensuring technical sustainability and understanding risks and trade-offs.
• Advocate for technical solutions and establish operational processes within the team.
• Ensure the team’s operations and availability through proper monitoring, triage rotations, and testing protocols.
• Foster a culture of quality and ownership, setting code review and design standards.
• Develop team talent by providing constructive feedback and guidance.

Requirements

• 8+ years of experience in designing, developing, and launching scalable backend systems using languages like Python or Kotlin.
• Experience in developing highly available distributed systems with technologies like AWS, MySQL, Spark, and Kubernetes.
• Proven track record in delivering major system features and writing high-quality, maintainable code.
• Comfort with ambiguity and the ability to work across various system architecture levels.
• Strong verbal and written communication skills for effective collaboration.
• Bachelor’s degree in a related field or equivalent practical experience.
