Overview

The role of Staff Software Engineer at Lyft involves joining the Mobile Tooling team to build foundational systems for mobile engineers, enhancing the developer experience for efficient mobile app development.

Key Responsibilities

• Create and maintain mobile build and release infrastructure, ensuring efficient app development for hundreds of mobile engineers.
• Manage team projects from start to finish, ensuring alignment and overcoming obstacles.
• Analyze systems for improvement and automation, and lead architectural reviews.
• Contribute to source code and stay updated with Android developments.
• Prototype tools for scaling infrastructure and maintain dependencies.
• Write maintainable code and resolve issues across applications and tools.
• Share knowledge through tech talks and mentor junior engineers.

Requirements

• Minimum 5+ years of software engineering experience.
• Experience in large Android builds and building command-line tools using Python or Bash.
• Strong knowledge of Kotlin; experience with Jetpack Compose is a plus.
• Deep understanding of mobile testing practices.
• Ability to work collaboratively in a cross-functional team.
• Experience guiding teams through planning and execution.

Location

This is a hybrid role, requiring in-office work 3 days a week in San Francisco, while also offering flexibility to work remotely for up to 4 weeks per year.
