Overview

The role involves joining Fivetran as a Staff Software Engineer for the dbt Core team, focusing on the development and maintenance of an open-source engine used by data practitioners.

Key Responsibilities

• Dive deep into the dbt-core execution engine to identify and resolve performance bottlenecks in the Python codebase.
• Architect and implement enhancements to the adapter interface for improved integration with databases and data platforms.
• Debug complex system-level issues spanning Linux process management, concurrency, database query planning, and network protocols.
• Lead technical design discussions and contribute to the architectural roadmap for dbt Core.
• Mentor engineers and review contributions from the open-source community while maintaining code quality standards.
• Take ownership of distributed systems, troubleshoot production issues, and participate in on-call rotations.

Requirements

• 6+ years of software development experience focused on backend systems.
• Proficiency in Python and strong backend engineering skills.
• Systematic approach to problem-solving, with experience in Linux environments.
• Understanding of database internals such as query execution, storage layers, and transaction management.
• Excellent communication skills and ownership mentality.
