Staff Software Engineer_Fusion Adapters @Fivetran

Overview

The Staff Software Engineer on the Fusion Adapters team at Fivetran will design and implement core abstractions to enhance how dbt communicates with execution systems. This role combines systems programming, database internals, and open-source development in the context of evolving data connectivity infrastructure.

Key Responsibilities

• Design, build, and maintain Rust-first connectivity layers, execution APIs, and adapter scaffolding.
• Partner with teams to evolve adapter interfaces and system boundaries.
• Contribute to open-source specifications like Arrow/ADBC.
• Own CI, testing frameworks, profiling, error reporting, and release readiness for Fusion adapters.
• Debug interoperability and performance issues across drivers and compute domains.
• Collaborate with internal and community maintainers on code reviews and RFCs.
• Mentor engineers on systems best practices and contribute to shared patterns.

Requirements

• Strong programming experience in Rust, Go, C++, or similar performance-oriented languages.
• Experience with SDKs, libraries, connectors, or integration codebases.
• Exposure to data warehouses, query engines, or execution runtimes.
• Ability to work in public code review loops and async-first communication.
• 6+ years of experience in software engineering, with strong systems-level skills.
• 2+ years in open-source, SDK, or low-level integration environments.
• Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science or equivalent experience.
