    The Youth Café has announced a consultancy opportunity for an Outreach, Advocacy, Liaison and Communications Officer under the ALIGN (Advancing Local Innovations for Adolescent Health & Nutrition) project. The 14-month role is part of a multi-country initiative aimed at improving adolescent health and nutrition outcomes across up to 12 African countries.

    The position sits within a broader consortium funded by the Global Financing Facility for Women, Children and Adolescents (GFF) and administered by the World Bank. The initiative is implemented in collaboration with Action Against Hunger USA, The Youth Café, and the Emergency Nutrition Network (ENN).

    About the ALIGN Project

    ALIGN is a regional development programme designed to strengthen adolescent health systems by supporting civil society organisations (CSOs) and youth-led organisations (YLOs) in scaling community-driven innovations.

    The project is structured around three core components:

    Strengthening CSO and YLO Capacity

    The programme focuses on building organisational and technical capacity for civil society actors by:

    • Providing technical assistance and mentorship
    • Supporting policy dialogue and stakeholder engagement
    • Establishing youth councils and feedback mechanisms
    • Creating a cross-country Community of Practice (CoP)

    Scaling Community Innovations Through Sub-Grants

    ALIGN supports selected CSOs and YLOs through sub-grants aimed at:

    Role Overview: Communications and Advocacy Leadership

    The Outreach, Advocacy, Liaison and Communications Officer will play a central role in shaping ALIGN’s communications strategy and ensuring consistent messaging across all programme countries.

    The role is responsible for translating complex programme data and field activities into accessible, high-impact communications outputs for policymakers, donors, civil society organisations, and youth stakeholders.

    Key responsibilities include:

    Communications Strategy and Content Development

    The officer will be responsible for developing and implementing ALIGN’s communications and visibility strategy, ensuring alignment with consortium branding and donor requirements.

    Core duties include:

    • Producing press releases, newsletters, policy briefs, and digital content
    • Managing social media platforms and youth-centred storytelling campaigns
    • Developing content calendars aligned with programme milestones
    • Coordinating with country teams to collect field stories and impact data
    • Ensuring proper documentation and archiving of communications outputs

    Advocacy and Policy Engagement

    The role also supports evidence-based advocacy across national and global platforms.

    Responsibilities include:

    • Developing advocacy campaigns and messaging frameworks
    • Producing policy briefs and knowledge products
    • Supporting CSO-led awareness campaigns
    • Engaging with global policy forums such as the World Bank Youth Innovation Forum and Committee on World Food Security
    • Monitoring policy developments in adolescent health and nutrition across 12 countries

    Stakeholder Engagement and Liaison Support

    The officer will act as a key communications liaison across consortium partners and stakeholders.

    Key responsibilities include:

    • Coordinating communication between The Youth Café, Action Against Hunger USA, and ENN
    • Supporting Community of Practice (CoP) communications and events
    • Managing event promotion, stakeholder engagement, and post-event reporting
    • Supporting sub-grantees with communications capacity building
    • Representing ALIGN in external forums and media engagements

    Knowledge Management and Reporting

    The role includes responsibility for documentation and learning within the programme.

    Duties include:

    • Producing case studies, success stories, and lessons-learned reports
    • Disseminating policy briefs and research outputs to stakeholders
    • Maintaining a structured knowledge management system
    • Preparing quarterly communications and advocacy reports
    • Supporting dissemination of research to global and regional audiences

    Eligibility and Qualifications

    Applicants must meet the following requirements:

    Essential Requirements

    • Bachelor’s degree in Communications, Journalism, Development Studies, or related field
    • Minimum of 3 years’ experience in communications or advocacy roles
    • Proven experience in multi-country programme communications
    • Strong writing skills for policy briefs, press releases, and digital content
    • Experience managing social media and digital advocacy campaigns
    • Ability to coordinate multi-stakeholder communications
    • Fluency in written and spoken English

    Applicants must also be legally authorised to work in their country of residence, as The Youth Café does not sponsor work permits.

    Desirable Skills

    • Experience with donor-funded programmes (GFF, World Bank, or similar)
    • Knowledge of adolescent health and nutrition policy frameworks
    • Experience with Community of Practice or peer learning platforms
    • Proficiency in French for Francophone country engagement
    • Multimedia production skills (graphics, video, photography)
    • Familiarity with content management and digital communication tools

    Contract Terms and Compensation

    The position is a 14-month consultancy with competitive compensation aligned with donor funding provisions.
