The United Nations Environment Programme (UNEP) has announced a new consultancy opportunity for a Sector-specific Gender Consultant on Digitalization, based in Copenhagen with remote working arrangements.
The assignment is part of ongoing efforts within the United Nations system to strengthen gender-responsive approaches in digital development and climate-related technologies.
The consultancy, identified under Job Opening ID 277766, was officially posted on May 19, 2026, and applications will close on May 28, 2026. The contract duration is expected to run for three months.
The consultant will be responsible for developing sector-specific gender mainstreaming guidelines for digitalization. These guidelines will support implementing partners in integrating gender considerations into project planning and execution, particularly in climate technology and digital innovation initiatives.
According to the job description, the final output will serve as a practical framework to ensure gender equality is embedded in digital development processes across multiple sectors, including climate governance, artificial intelligence applications, remote sensing, digital financial services, and e-agriculture.
The consultant will report to the CTCN Director or another designated official within the United Nations system.
The role centers on producing evidence-based gender mainstreaming tools that can be applied by international implementing partners. The consultant will be expected to translate complex gender analysis into actionable guidelines that support inclusive digital transformation.
Core expectations include:

Applicants must hold at least a Master’s degree in fields such as Gender Studies, Development Studies, ICT Policy, Public Policy, Environmental Studies, or related disciplines with a strong gender focus. The consultancy requires advanced analytical skills in gender-responsive research methodologies. Applicants are expected to apply structured frameworks such as the Harvard Analytical Framework, the Moser Framework, and CARE’s Gender Analysis Framework to assess inequality and inform policy recommendations.
The role also demands strong understanding of global policy frameworks, including the Paris Agreement, Sustainable Development Goals (especially SDGs 5, 9, 10, and 13), the UNFCCC Gender Action Plan, the Women’s Empowerment Principles, and the UN Global Digital Compact (2024).
The assignment is aligned with the broader mandate of the UN system to promote inclusive and sustainable digital transformation. Strong written and verbal communication skills in English are required. The consultant must be able to present complex technical and policy information in a clear and accessible manner for diverse audiences, including governments, civil society organizations, and private sector stakeholders.
