Overview
The Clinical Operations Manager at Sparrow will establish and lead a new clinical operations function within the Customer Experience team. This role focuses on bringing consistency, defensibility, and clinical rigor to evaluating medical certifications related to leave requests and ADA accommodations, while building the operational framework to support these activities.
Key Responsibilities
- Own the end-to-end clinical review of medical certifications submitted for leave requests, utilizing clinical judgment.
- Oversee daily clinical operations including leave analyses and certification evaluations.
- Manage the medical certification team—hiring, coaching, and performance management.
- Act as the clinical escalation point for disputed certifications.
- Support cross-functional collaboration across Product, Legal, Compliance, and CX.
- Resolve operational issues to enhance clinical review throughput.
- Build and enhance operational workflows to ensure consistent outcomes.
- Develop and update SOPs and documentation standards.
- Manage operational systems, reporting, and maintain audit-ready documentation.
- Identify trends in certification reviews to drive continuous improvements.
- Oversee clinical consistency and compliance for the function.
- Manage licensing and credentialing for the clinical team.
- Coordinate insurance and regulatory requirements for compliance initiatives.
- Plan operational improvements and establish the roadmap for the function's expansion.
- Facilitate continuous education for the Leave Specialist team.
Requirements
- Strong understanding of FMLA, ADA, and related state laws.
- 3+ years in disability, leave-of-absence, or claims-related clinical review.
- RN license preferred; significant insurance-related experience considered.
- Experience managing a care team with knowledge of disability, leave administration, and ADA accommodations.
- 3+ years of people management experience.
- Experience in designing operational workflows and training programs.
- Strong collaboration skills with various departments.
- Comfortable working in a developing function.
- CCM certification or similar is a plus; URAC/NCQA experience is also advantageous.
- Background with leave/disability carriers like Sedgwick or Unum is preferred.
Benefits
Annual compensation ranges from $111,250 to $159,500 based on experience and location.
