    Overview

The Counsel, Product & Regulatory (Payments & AML) role involves navigating complex regulatory questions and supporting product development at the intersection of product, regulation, and financial infrastructure.

    Key Responsibilities

    • Advise on payments products and infrastructure across a broad portfolio of initiatives.
    • Partner with product, compliance, risk, engineering, and other teams to provide legal perspective early in discussions.
    • Support the launch of new payment capabilities, helping identify risks and make informed decisions.
    • Collaborate with AML, compliance, and risk teams on financial crimes compliance initiatives.
    • Create frameworks and guidance that improve consistency and decision-making across the organization.
    • Utilize AI tools to enhance efficiency in legal workflows.
    • Stay adaptable and informed on evolving regulatory and product landscapes.

    Requirements

    • 4+ years of legal experience.
    • Active license to practice law in at least one U.S. jurisdiction.
    • Experience in fintech, banks, payment companies, or related fields.
    • Strong understanding of payments regulatory frameworks and interest in stablecoins.
    • Familiarity with BSA/AML and sanctions requirements.
    • Exceptional communication skills with the ability to tailor messaging to different audiences.
    • Strong judgment and proactive ownership in ambiguous situations.
    • Genuine curiosity about financial products and the regulatory landscape.

    Location

    Remote within Canada or the United States. The role can also be performed from San Francisco, New York, or Portland.
