Principal Software Engineer (Application Networking) - Platform Infrastructure @Elastic

Overview

Elastic is seeking a Principal Software Engineer to join the Platform Infrastructure team focusing on Application Networking. The role involves driving technical vision and architecture related to Ingress, security controls, private connectivity, and DNS management for Elastic Cloud.

Key Responsibilities

• Set the technical direction for major application networking initiatives, overseeing designs from proposal to general availability.
• Lead the development of Ingress, private connectivity, DNS, and security controls at scale for Elastic Cloud.
• Manage multi-quarter projects that impact other engineering teams and guide them through delivery.
• Raise operational quality by leading incident investigations and participating in on-call rotation.
• Mentor engineers and serve as a technical advisor to the broader engineering team.
• Advise product management and engineering stakeholders on technical trade-offs and roadmap direction.
• Identify and advocate for improvements in security, stability, and cost efficiency across the platform.

Requirements

• Experience in building software and setting technical direction for complex distributed systems.
• Deep expertise in application networking and cloud-native architecture.
• Experience building large-scale distributed systems from scratch, not relying solely on off-the-shelf solutions.
• Ability to manage projects from inception to completion, working effectively with multiple engineers.
• Experience operating high-availability SaaS platforms and enhancing reliability over time.
• Proficient in using AI for development and optimization while maintaining accountability for results.
• Excellent collaboration skills across teams and functions, with the ability to work autonomously.
