Overview
The role involves working as a DevOps Engineer at Colonist, a company focused on building a leading digital board game platform. The position is fully remote, emphasizing asynchronous work and outcome-oriented results.
Key Responsibilities
- Own Colonist's infrastructure end to end, including Kubernetes clusters, Docker builds, and DigitalOcean services.
- Manage cluster and cloud resources using Terraform.
- Improve production deployment frequency and safety.
- Oversee capacity management, including autoscaling and load balancer limits.
- Document systems, architecture decisions, runbooks, and incidents.
- Maintain and enhance the deployment path from merge to production.
- Operate PostgreSQL, Redis, and NATS, addressing performance issues and safe schema migrations.
- Manage Cloudflare configuration for DNS, proxying, caching, and more.
- Ensure observability with tools like Sentry and New Relic.
- Build self-service infrastructure paths for other engineers.
- Respond to incidents and conduct root cause analyses.
Requirements
- Senior-level experience in DevOps.
- Experience running Kubernetes in production.
- Strong documentation practices.
- Proficient with Linux, Docker, and CI systems.
- Experience with PostgreSQL and Redis under load.
- Familiarity with message brokers (NATS preferred, but equivalent experience acceptable).
- Experience using Cloudflare or similar services.
- Ability to debug live incidents across various systems.
