Overview

The Senior Principal Software Engineer at Docker is responsible for evolving the company’s technical landscape, focusing on the design, development, and maintenance of core systems, while aligning technology initiatives with business goals.

Key Responsibilities

• Define and drive the overarching technical vision to meet scalability, performance, and security needs.
• Evaluate and select tools, frameworks, and architectures for a state-of-the-art technology stack.
• Provide technical leadership and guidance, establishing best practices and standards.
• Coach and mentor engineers, fostering a culture of continuous learning and collaboration.
• Investigate emerging technologies and lead prototyping initiatives.
• Design fault-tolerant, highly available systems and oversee performance optimization strategies.
• Advocate for and implement Infrastructure as Code (IaC) principles and CI/CD pipelines.
• Collaborate with security experts to ensure platform integrity and protection of sensitive data.
• Work closely with product managers and stakeholders to align technical initiatives with business objectives.
• Tackle complex architectural issues and serve as an escalation point for system challenges.
• Uphold coding standards and enforce best practices in testing and documentation.
• Produce comprehensive technical documentation and promote a transparent engineering culture.

Requirements

• 12+ years of software engineering experience across multiple domains.
• Expertise in designing and implementing large-scale, distributed systems.
• Proficiency in multiple programming languages and cloud platforms (e.g., AWS, Azure, GCP).
• Ability to lead diverse engineering teams and drive successful outcomes.
• Strong diagnostic skills for complex system issues and designing scalable solutions.
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
• Solid understanding of security best practices and data protection.
• Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or related field, or equivalent experience.
