Overview

Brex is an intelligent finance platform that helps companies manage spending more efficiently. The Engineering Manager for Bill Pay will lead a team focused on developing next-generation Accounts Payable software, sitting at the crucial intersection of the Expense Management and Banking products.

Key Responsibilities

• Build and lead a full-stack team (7-10 engineers) focusing on Accounts Payable software, managing hiring and onboarding.
• Define the team's mandate within the broader Payments group and identify areas for investment.
• Set technical and product direction, prioritizing build order and rationale.
• Deliver a high-quality, reliable Accounts Payable product while balancing feature velocity and technical stability.
• Foster a people-centered culture focused on enablement and trust.
• Collaborate with Design and Product teams to align on project scope and delivery.
• Coach and mentor engineers across various levels.
• Integrate an AI-forward approach in operations and team building.
• Convert customer feedback into engineering priorities and drive product discovery.

Requirements

• Demonstrated engineering leadership with experience in building and scaling customer-facing products.
• Strong product sense and capability to defend product and UX tradeoffs.
• Technical expertise analogous to a staff engineer, capable of earning respect within the team.
• Strong customer empathy and advocacy.
• Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal.
• Experience in coaching and mentoring engineers at all levels.
• Minimum of 2 years in an engineering management role.

Benefits

Compensation ranges from $240,000 to $285,000 CAD, depending on various factors including location and experience. Equity and other forms of compensation may be provided.

Location

This role is hybrid, requiring at least three coordinated days in the Vancouver office per week, with the flexibility of up to four weeks of fully remote work per year.
