Engineering Manager, Postgres @Render

Overview

Render is building a modern cloud platform for developers to create AI-native, full-stack, multi-service applications. The Engineering Manager for Postgres will lead a team of engineers responsible for building and maintaining the Render Postgres product, focusing on technical leadership and product thinking.

Key Responsibilities

• Lead and grow a team of Postgres engineers through mentorship, feedback, and technical guidance.
• Drive execution on key product initiatives from ideation to launch, balancing speed with reliability and quality.
• Collaborate with Product, Design, and Infra teams to translate customer needs into technical solutions and roadmaps.
• Engage in technical discussions, guiding system design decisions and navigating architectural tradeoffs.
• Foster a culture of ownership, accountability, and continuous improvement across engineering practices.
• Help the team break down complex problems into incremental milestones that deliver value.
• Ensure a strong understanding of developer experience and customer impact of built features.
• Partner with product management, customers, and internal teams to understand needs and ensure impactful feature delivery.

Requirements

• 8+ years as an Engineer with experience shipping impactful products/features, ideally with stateful services.
• 2+ years of experience in managing and developing engineers, including hiring and performance management.
• Strong technical background with system design and engineering tradeoffs capabilities.
• Product-oriented mindset with experience translating business goals and user needs into engineering roadmaps.
• Ability to balance urgency with thoughtful execution and maintain high quality.
• Excellent communication and collaboration skills across engineering, product, and design teams.
• Strong sense of ownership and accountability for outcomes and long-term system health.
