Engineering Manager, Service Platform @Instacart

Overview

As the Engineering Manager for the Service Platform team at Instacart, you will lead the group responsible for the core deployment and release engineering systems. This role is foundational to the reliability of every service at Instacart and will directly shape how developers ship code confidently and efficiently.

Key Responsibilities

• Lead product-focused initiatives in a fast-paced environment.
• Manage critical reliability systems such as Temporal, Canary, and Deployments.
• Articulate and convey priorities while balancing organizational needs.
• Manage cross-cutting stakeholder relationships, prioritizing customer needs.
• Navigating ambiguous technical problem spaces and understanding deployment infrastructure.
• Lead by example, maintaining a strong incident triaging mindset.
• Engage with new domains, languages, and problem areas.

Requirements

Minimum Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science or related field, or equivalent practical experience.
• 2+ years experience in leading and managing teams, with expertise in large-scale distributed systems.
• 7+ years experience in software development with proficiency in programming languages.
• Proven track record of launching high-impact products, especially internal, developer-facing products.
• Strong proficiency in maintaining high standards for production services.

• Strong communication skills, with the ability to contextualize problems for various audiences.
• Experience in building and shipping products for users.
• Expertise in building platforms and high-scale infrastructure.
• Visionary thinking capable of generating transformative ideas.

Benefits

Instacart offers highly market-competitive compensation and benefits. The role is remote, and the base pay range for a successful candidate is $196,000 — $207,000 USD, depending on the candidate's location.

Location

This position is remote but limited to candidates in Canada: specifically, Ontario, Alberta, British Columbia, or Nova Scotia.
