Overview

The Lyft Urban Solutions (LUS) Firmware Engineering Manager role focuses on the development and delivery of Lyft's micromobility hardware offerings, including e-bikes, scooters, and batteries. This role combines technical expertise in embedded systems with leadership skills to guide a team of firmware engineers.

Key Responsibilities

• Lead, mentor, and grow a team of firmware engineers building embedded software for Lyft's micromobility products.
• Set technical direction and architecture for core firmware systems, including safety-critical fault handling.
• Own the OTA update and fleet operations strategy to reduce downtime across a globally distributed fleet.
• Partner with cross-functional stakeholders to develop and ship next-generation mobility products.
• Manage team planning, translating ambiguous product needs into actionable deliverables.
• Drive continuous improvement of existing products, focusing on reliability and safety.
• Represent the firmware team in regulatory and safety certification efforts.
• Build and maintain engineering rigor through CI/CD pipelines and testing standards.
• Communicate technical risk and progress clearly to peers and stakeholders.
• Support the career development of direct reports and contribute to broader engineering initiatives.

Requirements

• Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Electrical Engineering, or related field.
• 8+ years of experience developing in C/C++ for embedded systems, including 2+ years in a management role.
• Experience translating product needs into team roadmaps and actionable schedules.
• Deep understanding of embedded real-time operating systems and low-level OS concepts.
• Hands-on background with ARM Cortex-M processors and embedded debugging tools.
• Knowledge of IoT, motor control, battery management systems, and CAN bus protocols.
• Experience with OTA update systems and remote diagnostics.
• Familiarity with modern firmware development practices and functional safety frameworks.
• Excellent communication skills for cross-functional collaboration.
• Proven ability to build high-performing engineering teams and develop careers.
