Head of Editorial, Axios Live @Axios

Axios is a modern media company committed to providing trustworthy news content. They are hiring a Head of Live Editorial to join their events team, Axios Live.

Key Responsibilities

• Set the editorial vision and strategy for Axios Live programming across event formats.
• Ensure all editorial outputs meet Axios’ standards and Smart Brevity style.
• Exercise editorial judgment in fast-moving news environments, adapting programming as needed.
• Lead and develop the Axios Live editorial team, overseeing structure, performance management, and career development.
• Serve as the primary liaison to the broader newsroom, aligning editorial priorities.
• Partner with Communications for promotion, amplification, and coverage of events.
• Lead rigorous copy editing and final editorial reviews of external-facing materials.
• Develop event concepts, programming arcs, and editorial frameworks.
• Shape a diverse Axios Live programming portfolio that keeps the company at the forefront of storytelling.
• Contribute to the strategic growth of Axios Live, identifying new formats and revenue opportunities.
• Represent Axios Live as a senior editorial voice internally and externally.
• Ensure seamless coordination between Booking and Coverage functions.

Requirements

• 12 - 15+ years of journalism or editorial experience, including team leadership.
• Significant experience in live news, events, or video production.
• Proven success working in or closely with a newsroom.
• Excellent writing, editing, and research skills.
• Familiarity with digital and social media landscapes.
• Strong understanding of Axios’ Smart Brevity style.
• Ability to operate under pressure and meet tight deadlines.
• Extensive network of senior leaders and policymakers.
• Ability to travel for major events.
• Experience with video editing or live production is a plus.
