Overview

The Payment Operations Lead at Mercury is responsible for building and scaling the operational desks that support the bank’s payment rails, ensuring efficient processes, and maintaining high-quality standards.

Key Responsibilities

• Lead and develop a Payment Operations team with clear priorities and strong operating standards.
• Build and scale payment operations across international wires, domestic wires, RTP, ACH, and checks, including workflows and quality standards.
• Utilize payments expertise for operational decision-making, navigating exceptions and investigations.
• Enhance operational efficiency through improved processes, tooling, automation, and AI-enabled workflows.
• Collaborate with cross-functional teams to optimize workflows and payment operations for scalability.
• Define and track critical metrics for payment operations, such as productivity and quality.
• Create a culture of ownership and urgency within the team.

Requirements

• 3-5+ years of experience in payments or related operations functions, preferably in a financial institution or fintech.
• Deep knowledge of payment rails and the systems facilitating reliable payment processing.
• Experience leading and managing operations teams with a focus on performance improvement.
• Proven ability to scale operations through process improvement and technology.
• Understanding of operations within a regulated environment, balancing various operational factors.
• Strong communication skills, especially in complex situations.
• High degree of ownership in identifying and resolving system inefficiencies.
• Ability to work cross-functionally with various teams to enhance operational systems.
