Overview

Customer.io is seeking a Principal Product Designer, the highest individual contributor design role within the company. The role is significant in shaping the design vision and influencing design practices across the organization.

Key Responsibilities

• Shape and communicate a design vision for Customer.io's product.
• Drive the strategic direction of Pluma, the design system.
• Ensure alignment between design intent and the shipped product.
• Design for builder and developer audiences, focusing on CLI-native flows and API-first onboarding.
• Lead the design of human-AI interactions across the product.
• Collaborate with product and engineering leadership on product strategy.
• Contribute to hiring and mentorship of staff designers.
• Develop and advocate for Customer.io's AI product design philosophy.

Requirements

• 10+ years of product design experience with a strong portfolio.
• Experience in shaping design direction at the company level.
• Design experience for developer and builder audiences.
• Point of view on AI and agentic product design.
• Experience contributing to a design system at a strategic level.
• Ability to operate without authority, aligning stakeholders around design direction.
• Strong executive-level communication skills.
• Deep understanding of B2B SaaS products.
