Principal Product Manager, AI Custom Models @GitLab

Overview

GitLab is the intelligent orchestration platform for DevSecOps, enabling organizations to increase developer productivity and accelerate digital transformation. As a Principal Product Manager, you will shape GitLab's AI product direction by leading the development of custom models and self-hosted AI experiences, ensuring they align with customers' infrastructure and deployment needs.

Key Responsibilities

• Lead product strategy and roadmap for custom models and self-hosted AI capabilities.
• Drive discovery, prioritization, and delivery for features supporting model flexibility and AI agent orchestration.
• Collaborate with engineering, design, and product leaders to translate complex needs into clear product direction.
• Define product requirements considering infrastructure, configuration, and deployment.
• Partner with internal stakeholders to align product area with broader platform strategy.
• Guide tradeoff decisions focusing on customer value and long-term platform quality.
• Support knowledge transfer as the team evolves, ensuring continuity and clarity.
• Communicate transparently with distributed teams to facilitate asynchronous execution.

Requirements

• Experience in product strategy for technical platforms or AI-driven products.
• Knowledge of AI model ecosystems, including custom and open models.
• Familiarity with self-hosted software and operational customer needs.
• Ability to collaborate with engineers on configuration and deployment.
• Experience in leading complex projects with multiple stakeholders.
• Strong written and verbal communication skills for asynchronous environments.
• Judgment to operate at a principal level across strategy and execution.
• Openness to transferable experience from related fields such as DevSecOps or applied AI products.
