The role involves working as a Senior Backend Engineer on GitLab's Nonlinear Productivity team, focusing on improving the software development lifecycle using AI-powered automation.
Key Responsibilities
- Identify sources of friction in GitLab's software development lifecycle and propose agentic solutions.
- Design and build reliable AI-powered systems to standardize workflows and improve error handling.
- Maintain evaluation tools to assess correctness and compliance of outputs.
- Work across GitLab's codebase to address friction points effectively.
- Apply distributed systems knowledge to detect potential code issues in varying deployment contexts.
- Collaborate with the India-based team, sharing findings and tooling.
- Take ownership of problem spaces and contribute to shaping capabilities for customer offerings.
Requirements
- Experience building large language model-based systems and ensuring their reliability in production environments.
- Ability to work autonomously in new codebases and drive solutions to completion.
- Strong understanding of distributed systems, including key concepts like consistency and failure modes.
- Proficiency in Go, Rust, or Python, with the ability to modify code in multiple languages.
- Experience with shipping autonomous agents and improving software development processes is a plus.
