Senior Backend Engineer - Platform Insights @GitLab

Overview

GitLab is seeking a Senior Backend Engineer for the Platform Insights team to build and evolve core backend systems that power GitLab's data platform. This role focuses on Go-based development, with an emphasis on system design, production readiness, and deployment.

Key Responsibilities

• Design, build, and evolve backend services in Go for the Data Insights Platform and Siphon.
• Own parts of the backend architecture for Data Insights Platform, Siphon, and the Query API.
• Contribute to systems built around replication, buffering, and storage patterns.
• Drive production readiness and deployment of the Data Insights Platform.
• Debug and improve complex distributed systems in production.
• Collaborate with Infrastructure, Data, and peer Engineering teams.
• Work asynchronously in a remote environment with a focus on clear communication.
• Utilize AI as a productivity multiplier in workflows.

Requirements

• Strong backend engineering experience in Go, including production services.
• Experience in designing scalable, reliable systems for high-throughput workloads.
• Experience building APIs and service integrations, including gRPC.
• Experience working on data platforms and event pipelines.
• Familiarity with ClickHouse or similar data stores.
• Working knowledge of Ruby on Rails is a plus.
• Experience with reliability, observability, and deployment in production environments.
• Ability to work across team boundaries effectively.
