Senior Backend Engineer, Platform Readiness @GitLab

Overview

GitLab is seeking a Senior Backend Engineer to join their newly established Platform Readiness team. This role focuses on architecting and evolving systems to automate platform readiness evaluations, enhancing the ability to ship features successfully across multiple deployment platforms.

Key Responsibilities

• Contribute to the platform team’s agentic workflows and enable automated evaluations of platform readiness assessments.
• Evolve the platform requirements knowledge base, ensuring comprehensive schema design and validation tooling.
• Build integrations for feature teams to engage with the Platform Readiness team effectively.
• Partner with various platform teams to translate their expertise into structured requirements.
• Design quality control systems that surface errors and gaps for continuous improvement.
• Mentor other engineers on standards and methodologies related to agentic workflows.
• Document technical evolutions and key design choices of the Platform Readiness team.

Requirements

• 5+ years of software engineering experience, with at least 2+ years in backend, platform, or developer-facing tooling.
• Strong proficiency in TypeScript/Node, Python, or Golang.
• Experience in shipping developer-facing tooling for engineers.
• Understanding of GitLab development workflows.
• Ability to work cross-functionally across multiple platform teams.
• Experience with structured content systems or validation tooling.
• Highly valued: experience with AI systems or LLM APIs, background in developer experience, and relational database experience.
