Overview

The role involves working as a Senior Backend Engineer (Ruby) on the AI Events team, focusing on building systems that automate workflows based on events throughout the development lifecycle.
Key Responsibilities
- Design and build the trigger system linking GitLab events and third-party events to AI-powered workflows.
- Contribute to the broader event platform relied upon by multiple AI features.
- Architect systems for high availability and throughput to support automated AI workflows.
- Work within GitLab's Rails monolith while remaining open to using other technologies.
- Influence product architecture and propose solutions to complex technical problems.
- Collaborate with team members and cross-departmentally to integrate with the wider GitLab ecosystem.
- Participate in on-call rotations for production and security issues.
Requirements
- Deep experience with Ruby and Rails with a proven ability to ship production code.
- Hands-on experience integrating large language models into user-facing tools.
- Experience designing systems for large-scale operations, focusing on high availability.
- Background in building workflows for agentic systems allowing AI automation.
- Strong written communication skills for remote teamwork.
- Additional experience with Python and familiarity with GitLab as a product is beneficial.
