Overview

GitLab is seeking a Senior Backend Engineer for its Portfolio Experience team. The role focuses on understanding user needs and evolving the backend architecture to support a high-volume work items platform.

Key Responsibilities

• Collaborate with product and engineers to shape requirements and break complex projects into iterations.
• Design and implement backend features, including GraphQL and RESTful APIs.
• Build and enhance portfolio planning capabilities.
• Optimize PostgreSQL performance through various techniques.
• Create proofs of concept and maintain automated test coverage.
• Mentor engineers and support open source contributors.
• Participate in on-call rotations and troubleshoot production issues.

Requirements

• Experience leading projects and mentoring engineers.
• Full stack experience with a backend focus, proficient in Ruby and Ruby on Rails.
• Strong SQL skills, particularly with PostgreSQL.
• Experience designing GraphQL and RESTful APIs.
• Ability to improve large automated test suites.
• Strong communication skills for asynchronous collaboration.
• Experience integrating AI into development workflows is a plus.
