Senior Counsel, Risk @Brex

Overview

Brex is seeking a Senior Counsel, Risk to join their Legal team. The role primarily focuses on managing legal responses to disputes, incidents, collections, and regulatory inquiries for an intelligent finance platform that operates in over 200 markets.

Key Responsibilities

• Manage pre-litigation matters including demand letters and disputes with customers and vendors.
• Lead the legal resolution of account and funds ownership disputes.
• Oversee collections on delinquent card and lending balances, ensuring compliance with laws and partner requirements.
• Manage bankruptcy matters, including recovery strategies in Chapter 7 and 11 proceedings.
• Serve as the legal lead on incidents, coordinating responses and ensuring privilege is maintained.
• Drive remediation programs from incidents and manage customer outreach relating to these incidents.
• Prepare responses to regulatory inquiries and supervise responses to third-party legal processes.
• Build and improve internal playbooks and frameworks for handling disputes and incidents.
• Advise teams on risk reduction related to disputes and incidents.

Requirements

• Juris Doctor (JD) and active bar membership in good standing of at least one U.S. jurisdiction.
• 6+ years of experience as an attorney, particularly in litigation, bankruptcy, and regulatory investigations.
• Experience managing pre-litigation disputes and engagements with external counsel.
• Knowledge of the regulatory landscape applicable to fintech.
• Proven ability to handle a high-volume docket and provide strong judgment.
• Excellent drafting skills for regulatory and customer communications.
• A calm and structured approach under pressure with proactive ownership.
• Collaborative attitude and comfort in cross-functional environments.

Location

Remote with a hybrid requirement to be in the San Francisco office at least three days a week.
