Senior Director, Internal Audit @GitLab

Overview

The Senior Director, Internal Audit at GitLab will report to the Vice President, Internal Audit and will help strengthen the Internal Audit function by operationalizing an established audit methodology, guiding audit quality, and implementing a risk-based audit plan that aligns with GitLab’s strategic objectives.

Key Responsibilities

• Evolve and operationalize GitLab's Internal Audit methodology, focusing on responsible use of AI and stakeholder communications.
• Plan and lead risk-based operational audits with practical recommendations for compliance and emerging risks.
• Coach and manage a distributed team to meet clear milestones and defined outcomes.
• Facilitate enterprise risk management activities to integrate risk awareness into strategic decision making.
• Prioritize audit work in cooperation with business leaders and support effective risk mitigation.
• Oversee the Sarbanes-Oxley testing program in support of ongoing compliance.
• Implement a Quality Assurance and Improvement Program to track audit performance and adherence to standards.
• Lead reporting for the Audit Committee and other critical Internal Audit initiatives.

Requirements

• Experience in leading internal audit functions and managing a significant audit portfolio.
• Expertise in audit and enterprise risk management processes.
• Proven experience in building and leading distributed teams.
• Strong assessment skills on audit scope and quality through a business-focused lens.
• Effective communication skills for advising stakeholders on risk and mitigation.
• Experience with data and analytical tools to solve business problems.
• Relevant education or credentials in accounting, finance, audit, or risk management are valued.
