Senior Engineering Manager, Core Picking @Instacart

Overview

The Fulfillment Services team at Instacart is building the picking technology platform for fulfillment needs of major retailers and millions of customers. The Senior Engineering Manager will lead the Core Picking engineering team, focusing on enhancing the shopper picking experiences and ensuring the stability and scalability of engineering systems.

Key Responsibilities

• Define, communicate, and drive the technical vision and strategy that aligns with product strategy.
• Oversee the roadmap and enable technical and product decisions to achieve key business outcomes.
• Create best practices for production services to ensure an exemplary experience for retailers.
• Lead, coach, and develop a high-performing team of 10+ engineers.
• Manage recruitment and hiring processes to build the engineering team.

Requirements

• 10+ years of software engineering experience with 4+ years managing engineers.
• Proven track record as a hands-on technical leader in a similar industry.
• Experience crafting and executing strategic engineering roadmaps.
• Strong communication skills and effective cross-functional leadership.
• Experience in staffing, mentoring, and leading engineering teams.

Preferred Qualifications

• Experience managing multiple teams and scaling engineering teams.
• Prior experience managing teams overseeing mission-critical business systems.
• Technical depth with Ruby on Rails, Go, Swift, and/or Kotlin.
