    Overview

    Mercury is seeking a Data & AI Governance leader to build and lead an enterprise-wide governance program for data and artificial intelligence. This role, reporting to the Chief Risk Officer, will establish standards for how data and AI are owned, developed, used, protected, and monitored across the organization.

    Key Responsibilities

    • Develop and implement Mercury’s enterprise Data and AI Governance frameworks, policies, standards, and operating model.
    • Establish accountability for data ownership, stewardship, quality, lineage, classification, access, retention, and appropriate use.
    • Create a risk-based governance process for AI use cases across their lifecycle.
    • Develop responsible-AI principles addressing transparency, explainability, fairness, privacy, and regulatory compliance.
    • Maintain an enterprise inventory of material data assets and related governance decisions.
    • Define risk-based classifications and governance requirements based on various use case factors.
    • Establish governance for internally developed and vendor-provided AI capabilities.
    • Partner with various teams to embed governance requirements into processes.
    • Coordinate with Model Risk Management on AI use cases.
    • Develop processes for identifying, documenting, and remediating data and AI-related risks.
    • Establish metrics/reporting for management and Board visibility into governance aspects.
    • Monitor regulatory developments related to data and AI.
    • Support relevant governance forums and facilitate decision-making.
    • Eventually build and lead a Data & AI Governance team.
    • Promote a culture of responsible and transparent data and AI use.

    Requirements

    • 10+ years of experience in data governance, AI governance, technology risk, or related fields.
    • Experience building or enhancing data or AI governance programs.
    • Strong understanding of data management concepts.
    • Working knowledge of AI and machine learning, including generative AI.
    • Ability to create effective governance processes in fast-paced environments.
    • Strong judgment and ability to balance innovation and risk management.
    • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
    • Experience leading teams and managing cross-functional programs.
