Senior Migration Engineer - GitLab Dedicated @GitLab

Overview

As a Senior Migration Engineer for GitLab Dedicated, you will partner with customers to plan and deliver migrations from self-managed GitLab to GitLab Dedicated. You will utilize GitLab Geo for data replication, managing migrations with minimal disruptions while maintaining clear communication and project ownership.

Key Responsibilities

• Lead migrations from self-managed GitLab to GitLab Dedicated using GitLab Geo.
• Design migration runbooks and automate repeatable cutovers while validating target environments with Terraform, Ansible, and Kubernetes.
• Deliver customer migrations from assessment through planning, replication, cutover, and post-migration validation.
• Debug synchronization issues and keep migrations on track.
• Design customer network connectivity within GitLab Dedicated's constraints.
• Advise customers on migration sequencing and clear next steps.
• Improve migration tooling, scripts, and runbooks for efficiency.
• Manage multiple customer engagements and share technical knowledge with other engineers.

Requirements

• Experience in migration, installation, training, or technical advisory engagements.
• Knowledge of GitLab, Git, and source control workflows.
• Experience with infrastructure as code tools like Terraform and Ansible.
• Hands-on experience with Kubernetes in production environments.
• Familiarity with cloud providers such as AWS, GCP, or Azure.
• Ability to modify infrastructure tooling with knowledge of programming languages like Go, Python, or Ruby.
• Strong communication skills in English, with experience in remote work environments.
• PubSec/Federal experience is a plus.
