Overview

The Senior Mobile Engineer, iOS at Thunderbird is an experienced individual contributor responsible for the design, development, and evolution of Thunderbird’s iOS application. This role plays a key part in delivering high-quality user experiences by working collaboratively with mobile engineers, product management, and other teams.

Key Responsibilities

• Build and refine Thunderbird’s mobile products and platform architecture.
• Improve scalability, performance, reliability, and user experience.
• Develop a deep understanding of the codebase and architecture to make confident changes across the entire stack.
• Maintain strong debugging and testing practices.
• Review code and guide improvements to architecture, testing, and development best practices.
• Resolve complex issues involving performance, security, and cross-platform integration.
• Monitor application health and address issues proactively.
• Document technical decisions, system architecture, and team processes.
• Own assigned projects and collaborate cross-functionally from planning to delivery.
• Ensure mobile development meets accessibility, security, and privacy standards.

Requirements

• 7+ years of professional software development experience, including 2+ years as a Senior Software Engineer.
• 3+ years of mobile application development experience.
• Strong experience with Swift, SwiftUI, and iOS frameworks.
• Deep knowledge of iOS architecture, design patterns, and performance optimization.
• Experience with mobile security and encryption.
• Familiarity with communication protocols such as RSS, IMAP, or POP.
• Advanced proficiency with Git.
• Strong problem-solving skills and attention to detail.
• Excellent async written communication skills.
