Senior Product Designer, AI @GitLab

Overview

GitLab is seeking a Senior Product Designer for its AI Product Design team. In this role, you will help shape the future of AI-powered developer tools by designing intuitive interfaces and experiences within GitLab's AI suite, which enhances developer productivity and operational efficiency.

Key Responsibilities

• Own the design process from early exploration to polished execution, creating flows, wireframes, prototypes, and high-fidelity designs.
• Ship and iterate on complex AI experiences, working closely with Product Management, Engineering, and Technical Writing.
• Set quality standards through strong visual and interaction design while providing constructive feedback to team members.
• Define strategic direction using validated user evidence and connect day-to-day work to the longer-term vision.
• Enable other designers to understand and apply AI capabilities effectively and contribute to design systems.
• Mentor and guide other designers in skill development and participate in candidate interviewing and portfolio evaluations.

Requirements

• A strong portfolio showing design iteration, particularly in AI/ML products or agentic workflows.
• Experience designing for AI workflows and understanding their unique challenges.
• A high bar for interaction and visual design quality.
• Experience conducting research and translating findings into design decisions.
• Proven ability to work iteratively in agile development while balancing speed and quality.
• Experience in complex enterprise contexts, with knowledge of Git, HTML/CSS, and accessibility best practices.
• Excellent communication skills for articulating design rationale and simplifying complex ideas.
