Senior Risk & Compliance Engineer - Data @Instacart

Overview

Instacart is seeking a Senior Risk & Compliance Engineer to join their Governance, Risk and Compliance (GRC) team. The role focuses on building an automated, engineering-grade risk program that provides real-time risk scoring and quantified exposure models in the realm of security, data, and business impact.

Key Responsibilities

• Build automated signal ingestion pipelines that pull real-time data from security tooling, normalizing, enriching, and scoring raw findings into actionable risk intelligence.
• Develop probabilistic risk models that express security exposure as probability distributions, aiding leadership with quantified insights on breach likelihood and expected losses.
• Identify systemic choke points across the attack surface and prioritize high-leverage remediation paths.
• Create dashboards and data-driven insights for stakeholders at all levels of the organization.
• Support risk quantification efforts that express security exposure in financial terms.

Requirements

• 5+ years of experience in data engineering and ability to write production-level code in Python and SQL (PostgreSQL, Presto, SparkSQL).
• 3+ years of experience in building and deploying machine learning or probabilistic models in a production setting.
• Experience with real-time data pipelines for both stream and batch processing.
• Knowledge in data modeling for risk or anomaly detection.
• Experience in developing metrics related to security and business decisions.

Preferred Qualifications

• Familiarity with security risk concepts and quantitative risk frameworks.
• Exposure to security frameworks such as NIST CSF and SOC 2.
• A record of effectively translating risk model outputs into narratives for executives.
• A passion for building systems that protect customers and products.
