Senior Software Engineer - Orchestration @Fivetran and dbt Labs

Overview

Fivetran and dbt Labs are looking for a Senior Software Engineer to join their Orchestration team, responsible for the control plane layer of the dbt platform. This role involves end-to-end design and delivery of features aimed at improving system performance, reliability, and capabilities.

Key Responsibilities

• Design and implement features and performance improvements across the services.
• Develop, maintain, and test high-quality, maintainable code.
• Write technical designs, actively seek feedback, and explain design trade-offs.
• Participate in code reviews, providing constructive feedback to the team.
• Improve test coverage with unit tests and refactor as needed.
• Troubleshoot and debug production issues, with follow-up on incidents.
• Participate in sprint and feature planning, structuring and executing project plans.
• Collaborate with cross-functional teams to deliver high-quality products.
• Use AI tooling to accelerate development and author various SDLC artifacts.

Requirements

• 5+ years of experience in the software industry, focusing on backend services and reusable components.
• Experience with distributed systems and cloud computing concepts.
• Ability to write well-structured, performant, and well-tested code.
• Experience in code reviews, troubleshooting, and testing.
• Proficiency in a modern backend or systems language (e.g., Python, Java, C++, C#).
• Hands-on experience with cloud platforms (AWS, GCP, or Azure) and containerization technologies.
• Familiarity with AI code assistants and tools for software development.
• Bonus: Experience with ETL/ELT processes, metadata systems, GraphQL APIs, and analytics workflows.
