Senior Software Engineer - Orchestration @Fivetran

Overview

Fivetran and dbt Labs are seeking a Senior Software Engineer to join the Orchestration team, responsible for the control plane layer of the dbt platform. This is a full-time, fully remote position focused on providing high-quality data pipelines for thousands of companies.

Key Responsibilities

• Design and implement features and performance improvements across various services.
• Develop, maintain, and test high-quality, maintainable code optimized for performance.
• Write technical designs for feature work and seek feedback on trade-offs.
• Review technical designs and pull requests, providing constructive feedback.
• Improve test coverage and refactor code to reduce technical debt.
• Troubleshoot and debug production issues, documenting findings and plans for mitigation.
• Plan and execute project tasks while contributing to sprint and feature planning.
• Collaborate with product managers, QE, and customer support to deliver high-quality products.
• Participate in an on-call rotation and emphasize security in all work.
• Utilize AI tooling to support development and documentation processes.

Requirements

• 5+ years of experience in software engineering, particularly in backend services.
• Experience with distributed systems and cloud computing concepts.
• Ability to write well-structured, performant, and tested code independently.
• Proficiency in a modern backend language (Python, Java, C++, C#).
• Hands-on experience with cloud platforms (AWS, GCP, Azure) and containerization (Docker, Kubernetes).
• Experience with CI tools (e.g., BuildKite) and observability tools (e.g., Datadog).
• Familiarity with using AI assistants for coding and documentation tasks.
• Bonus skills: Knowledge of data processing, metadata systems, and GraphQL APIs.
