Senior Software Engineer (RoR/Go), SSCS: Authentication @GitLab

Overview

The role involves building the next generation of authentication services at GitLab as a Senior Backend Engineer. The Engineer will work on authentication features across the Rails monolith and GATE, the identity and access management control that supports various GitLab deployment models.

Key Responsibilities

• Contribute to the team's overall direction and shape the future roadmap of GATE and GitLab's authentication services.
• Design and implement authentication features including token issuance and validation.
• Migrate authentication management paths into GATE while ensuring reliability.
• Build authentication mechanisms such as Workload Identity Federation.
• Enhance security measures and address vulnerabilities reported through HackerOne.
• Solve complex technical problems across Go and Ruby codebases.
• Help define and improve internal coding standards and practices.
• Collaborate with the team on larger projects, including GATE development.

Requirements

• Professional experience with Go and/or Ruby in scaling software-as-a-service products.
• Familiarity with authentication technologies such as OAuth, OpenID Connect, SSO, SCIM, and others.
• Knowledge of token systems, cryptographic signing, and key management.
• Experience building services from concept to production.
• Proficiency in English for clear communication in a remote environment.
• Experience with performance optimization and agile software development processes.
