Senior Software Engineer (Typescript), AI Clients: Duo CLI @GitLab

Overview

The role of Senior Software Engineer on the Duo CLI functional team at GitLab involves designing and building tools that integrate GitLab Duo into developers' terminal workflows. You will work primarily in TypeScript while shaping AI-assisted experiences.

Key Responsibilities

• Design, develop, and evolve GitLab Duo CLI features from problem definition to implementation, focusing on feature usage and feedback.
• Create interactive terminal experiences in TypeScript, ensuring command design, output formatting, and backward compatibility.
• Improve reliability, observability, and performance for the CLI, tracking metrics and reducing technical debt.
• Collaborate with Product, Design, and engineers across Developer Clients and AI Clients to align technical decisions with GitLab's strategy.
• Promote product quality, security, and developer experience through reviews and mentorship.
• Contribute to IDE extension work, including JetBrains plugin and VS Code extension development when relevant.

Requirements

• Strong proficiency in TypeScript and an interest in developer tooling.
• Experience in building or maintaining command-line tools, including command design and terminal user interfaces.
• Ability to own technical problems end to end and guide other engineers through code reviews.
• Clear communication skills in English, comfortable with a fully remote, largely asynchronous environment.

• Experience with IDE extensions (JetBrains plugins or VS Code extensions) and knowledge of Language Server Protocol is a plus but not required.
