Software Engineer II, - Ads @Instacart

Overview

The role of Software Engineer II at Instacart involves building and shipping features across the publisher-facing stack of Carrot Ads, which is Instacart's advertising platform. This position provides opportunities to work on a rapidly growing business that serves enterprise retail partners.

Key Responsibilities

• Build and ship publisher-facing features across Storefront, Storefront Pro, and API partners, including API endpoints and configuration tooling.
• Extend the Connect / Carrot Ads API with clear contracts, robust event handling, and self-serve documentation.
• Develop the retailer control surface: relevance and quality-score inputs, reserve pricing, and ad-load controls.
• Enhance reporting and data integrity across partner systems through automated health checks and reconciliation.
• Define and meet partner SLAs, improving reliability and observability of systems.
• Debug partner-facing serving and reporting issues by tracing root causes across systems.
• Collaborate with Product, Enterprise Solutions, and horizontal Ads teams.
• Utilize AI-assisted developer tools to maintain quality and security standards.

Requirements

• 3+ years of experience in building and operating production backend services.
• Strong fundamentals in API design and distributed systems, with proficiency in backend languages such as Go, Ruby, or Python.
• Proven track record of shipping features end to end with emphasis on testing and operational ownership.
• Experience in debugging across service boundaries and collaborating with cross-functional teams.
• Bachelor's degree in Computer Science or related field, or equivalent practical experience.
• Preferred: Experience in ad tech, familiarity with event streaming, and cloud infrastructure experience with AWS or GCP.

Location

This is a remote role, but hiring is currently restricted to candidates in Ontario, Alberta, British Columbia, and Nova Scotia.
