Software Engineer, Telematics @Lyft

Overview

Lyft is seeking an experienced backend software engineer to join the Road Safety & Telematics team, focusing on using telematics data to enhance safety and affordability for riders and drivers.

Key Responsibilities

• Champion the team's safety and affordability mission by providing risk insights for various teams at Lyft.
• Lead medium to large projects, ensuring quality and reliability in execution.
• Collaborate with Data Scientists to productionize models for detecting harsh events and generating risk features.
• Drive improvements to reduce latency and enhance accuracy of backend and on-device models.
• Support team members to foster a collaborative work environment.
• Maintain Telematics systems and reduce technical debt through data-driven design choices.
• Work with product management to define and execute Telematics roadmaps.
• Apply AI tools to enhance productivity, sharing knowledge with the team.
• Utilize expertise in Python, AWS, Spark, and SQL to deliver scalable solutions.
• Participate in on-call rotations and support incident response efforts.

Requirements

• 4+ years of software engineering experience.
• Experience in backend software development for large-scale distributed systems.
• Familiarity with batch processing jobs using Spark.
• Experience defining API schemas and developing backend services in a microservices environment.
• Knowledge of S3, Spark, Presto, Parquet, Databricks.
• Strong communication skills and ability to collaborate with distributed teams.

Location

This is a hybrid role based in Toronto, Canada, requiring in-office attendance at least 3 days a week.
