    Overview

    Thunderbird is a leading open-source email application, managed by MZLA Technologies Corporation, and is looking for a Staff Designer to assist in the development of Thunderbolt, an open-source AI client. The role focuses on shaping product experiences that transition from early development into enterprise usage.

    Key Responsibilities

    • Build functional prototypes and product experiments in the Thunderbolt codebase.
    • Translate product ideas and user workflows into clear product experiences.
    • Define interaction patterns for various enterprise features.
    • Utilize AI-assisted development tools while ensuring quality across usability, security, and accessibility.
    • Collaborate with cross-functional teams to refine product direction.
    • Contribute production-quality front-end code as necessary.
    • Enhance usability, accessibility, consistency, and overall user experience of Thunderbolt.
    • Bring a user-centered approach to technical and product discussions.
    • Ensure product designs consider enterprise needs, especially regarding data sensitivity and user control.
    • Foster a product culture valuing speed, clarity, and responsible AI use.

    Requirements

    • 10+ years of experience in design engineering, front-end engineering, UX engineering, or related fields.
    • Strong front-end engineering skills, particularly in JavaScript or TypeScript.
    • Proven product and interaction design judgment.
    • Experience with AI-enabled product experiences.
    • Skills in translating ambiguous concepts into usable workflows.
    • Experience in technical leadership and fostering collaboration.
    • Awareness of AI, privacy, and security considerations impacting product design.
    • Strong communication and collaboration abilities.
    • A portfolio showcasing design-to-code execution and product improvements.
