Overview
GitLab is looking for a Staff Software Engineer to lead key areas in GitLab Security, focusing on the data layer for vulnerability and dependency management, alongside developing scalable backend systems. Key Responsibilities
- Lead large technical deliverables from initial problem definition through delivery, often spanning multiple months or quarters.
- Design and develop backend systems for vulnerability and dependency management, including integrations with third-party systems.
- Build and improve systems using Ruby on Rails and PostgreSQL, contributing to services in Go or Rust where appropriate.
- Shape technical plans and help other engineers deliver effectively.
- Influence product and technical roadmap through hands-on investigation and iterative delivery.
- Apply a security mindset when designing systems and define patterns for modular services.
Requirements
- Experience in leading complex backend projects while remaining hands-on in design and development.
- Strong PostgreSQL experience with query optimization and table management.
- Professional experience in Ruby on Rails, Go, or Python, with an interest in cross-language work.
- Ability to collaborate with a range of partners and explain technical trade-offs clearly.
- Experience with security tooling for vulnerability management or related products.
- Fluency in using AI tools to improve delivery.
