Overview

The role of Staff Software Engineer at Brex involves operating across Acquisition Engineering, focusing on identifying and driving high-impact technical opportunities throughout the customer journey.

Key Responsibilities

• Identify and lead the most consequential technical initiatives across Acquisition Engineering, from first touch through onboarding, activation, and ongoing adoption.
• Set technical direction for cross-team systems, including architecture, platform boundaries, reliability, and data quality.
• Partner with GTM Engineering, Salesforce, Onboarding, and Adoption to improve end-to-end customer and operator experiences.
• Raise the technical bar through design reviews, implementation, and operational excellence.
• Champion repeatable, secure, and high-velocity delivery across the group, including practices for code review and deployment safety.
• Act as a force multiplier by mentoring senior engineers and developing future technical leaders.
• Collaborate with product, design, data, operations, and go-to-market partners to translate business opportunities into scalable technical solutions.
• Bring an AI-forward mindset to building customer experiences and engineering workflows.

Requirements

• 8+ years of software engineering experience, with a track record of technical leadership across multiple teams.
• Demonstrated ability to resolve ambiguous, cross-cutting problems.
• Deep experience in designing, building, and operating large-scale backend or full-stack systems in production.
• Strong product and business judgment, connecting technical investments to customer experience and operational outcomes.
• Proven ability to influence across engineering, product, and business without direct authority.
• Strong collaboration and communication skills, able to convey complex technical trade-offs effectively.

Benefits

The expected salary range for this role is $240,000 - $300,000. The compensation package may include equity and other forms of compensation.

Location

This role is based in San Francisco, California, in a hybrid environment requiring three days per week in the office.
