Staff Software Engineer, Backend (Deal reporting) @Affirm

Overview

Affirm is seeking a highly motivated Staff Software Engineer in Backend to join the Deal Reporting team. This team is responsible for essential capital partner integrations and automating funding processes, aiming to empower Affirm’s first international team.

Key Responsibilities

• Set technical strategy for the team on a long-term basis, aligning with critical project goals.
• Collaborate with product management, design, and analytics across the product development lifecycle to manage technical sustainability and risks.
• Advocate for technical solutions and operational processes, enhancing team effectiveness.
• Ensure the operations and availability of team services, implementing proper monitoring, triage rotations, and alerting systems.
• Create a culture of quality and ownership by establishing code review and design standards.
• Develop talent within the team through feedback, guidance, and leading by example.

Requirements

• 7+ years of experience in designing, developing, and launching backend systems at scale, using languages like Python or Kotlin.
• Experience building highly available distributed systems with technologies such as AWS, MySQL, and Kubernetes.
• Knowledge of Spark and task orchestration systems like Airflow or Temporal is preferred.
• Experience in delivering major features and system components through thorough planning and execution.
• Proficiency in both high and low-level language philosophies to understand large system architectures.
• Strong verbal and written communication skills for effective collaboration.
